In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of PREDATOR ENERGY GOLD STRIKE MALAYSIA
When opened, the can releases an aroma of sweet, classic energy drink flavor.

The first sip delivers a fruity, classic energy drink flavor with a light sweetness that spreads across the palate. Contrary to the common image of Southeast Asian energy drinks being extremely sweet, I was surprised by how mild the sweetness was and how little it lingered in the aftertaste.
The acidity is quite restrained, so it lacks that sharp, refreshing kick. However, its light sweetness makes it a good choice when you want to enjoy a classic Southeast Asian energy drink flavor without anything too heavy.
Curious about this, I checked the nutrition facts and found that the sugar content was roughly half that of a typical energy drink, making this a half-sugar formula. Given how much sugar is often used in energy drinks across Southeast Asian markets, I'm very interested to know how this less-sweet take on a classic flavor was received locally.
However, there's something worth noting: this Malaysian version of PREDATOR ENERGY appears to have been discontinued just around two years after its launch, in 2024. When I visited Malaysia in 2023, the brand was still running promotional campaigns, but perhaps this less-sweet approach never really caught on with local consumers.
Energy Ingredients of PREDATOR ENERGY GOLD STRIKE MALAYSIA

It contains 59.2 mg of caffeine and 320 mg of taurine.
The sugar content is roughly half that of a typical energy drink, making this a half-sugar formula. The actual sweetness is quite light, which might leave some consumers feeling that it doesn't quite deliver enough sweetness for a classic Southeast Asian energy drink flavor.
Design of PREDATOR ENERGY GOLD STRIKE MALAYSIA
The tiger is central to the brand's image. When this product was launched in Malaysia, it apparently received a very positive response, with people saying, "It features the endangered Malayan tiger!"

That said, PREDATOR ENERGY originally built its presence across Africa, so it's unclear whether the design was actually intended to represent the Malayan tiger specifically.
PREDATOR ENERGY was released in Malaysia in a slightly wider and taller 320 ml can.

On the back, you'll find the kind of cringe-worthy energy drink poetry that's familiar from brands under the Monster Energy umbrella.
