In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Shuchu Regain

As I open the can with its cool silver and blue design, I wonder what the flavor will be like. The scent that hits me is a refreshing one, typical of a classic flavor. It's a crisp aroma, not overly sweet or heavy.

When I pour it into a glass, the yellow color is typical, which is a bit disappointing... The silver and blue can design doesn’t match the contents at all (;´∀`). I was expecting something different, but anyway, I took a sip...

A strong chemical flavor spreads across my mouth and up my nose. The intense medicinal taste is balanced by a refreshing sweetness, and the overall flavor is highly refined!

There is also the sweetness of artificial sweeteners, so the chemical taste feels even more artificial. This sweetness is most noticeable when it's near room temperature. However, when it's properly chilled, the chemical flavor and sweetness become refreshingly crisp, making it very easy to drink and quite delicious ((o(´∀`)o)).

By chilling it well, the refreshing taste becomes more pronounced. Personally, I like the flavor, which feels like a mix of Mad Croc Original with a touch of chemical flavor.

If you're looking for a refreshing classic chemical flavor, this is a good reference point. It’s more refreshing than Rockstar, less heavy than Monster Original, and even more refreshing than Red Bull. As mentioned on the can, it definitely gives you that "sharpened" feeling.

If you like chemical flavors, Shuchu Regain should definitely satisfy your taste.

Energy Ingredients of Shuchu Regain

Shuchu Regain contains 100mg of theanine, which is part of its focus-boosting concept. It also contains 80mg of caffeine and a relatively high amount of 1000mg of arginine.

Theanine is an amino acid found in tea leaves that has a relaxing effect. With its focus-boosting concept, Shuchu Regain uses theanine to support relaxation and concentration even in stressful situations. It's like a functional drink, making you question what exactly an energy drink is anymore.

For comparison, theanine in popular domestic relaxation supplements is typically around 120mg per day, so Shuchu Regain contains a comparable amount. However, don't expect dramatic improvement in concentration (;´∀`).

Product Concept of Shuchu Regain

The "salaryman drink" concept seems to be maintained without deviation, with just a bit of theanine added to express the "brainy" image through the name "Shuchu Regain."

The word "energy drink" is convenient for raising the price and creating an image of effectiveness, but when it gets to this point, you start questioning what exactly an energy drink is.

Ultimately, the manufacturers are trying to associate some kind of effect with the term "energy drink," and it's common for consumers to believe it has some kind of benefit, so I guess it can’t be helped (´・ω・`).

Love the Design of Shuchu Regain Despite the Kanji

Personally, I really like the can design. It’s sleek with a silver design that reflects light, paired with simple blue accents, and it looks beautiful (●´ω`●). I thought they had made the drink’s color to match the can’s design, but unfortunately, it turned out to just be the usual yellow of energy drinks, which is a little disappointing. The flavor is delicious, the release in August aligns with the refreshing flavor, and the concept is interesting. However, it feels like it's somewhat wasted.

The pull tab is a standard silver tab. If it had been blue, it would have looked even cooler.

On the back of the can, there are scenarios listed where you might want to boost your concentration with Shuchu Regain, so there may be several different types.
