VOLT DARK ENERGY

VOLT ENERGY is a series from Mexico. This time, I am reviewing the U.S.-market version of VOLT DARK ENERGY, which is sold in the United States.
I purchased it at an independent liquor store in San Francisco in the summer of 2025. With this dark-looking exterior, what kind of flavor do you imagine? Let’s get straight into the review.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of VOLT DARK ENERGY
When opened, an aroma almost identical to Monster Energy Original bursts out. The package says "berry flavor," but... the color of the liquid does not really look like a berry flavor either.
Now, let’s take a sip.

On the palate, a rich sweetness envelops the mouth, delivering a taste very close to Monster Energy Original. For those who like energy drinks, a detailed explanation is hardly necessary—saying "Monster Energy–like flavor" almost perfectly conveys what it tastes like.
If I had to point out a difference, the sweet, grape-like note that lingers in the aftertaste could be considered a characteristic of VOLT DARK ENERGY.
If someone drinks this after seeing "berry flavor" written on the package, it might come as a surprise. The taste itself sits squarely in the middle of a classic, mainstream energy drink flavor profile.
That said, as a classic-style flavor, there is very little to criticize. The quality is high enough to be called a clone of Monster Energy.
The clean sweetness and aroma, combined with a rich and classic flavor profile, linger nicely, resulting in a strong sense of satisfaction.
However, the price is not particularly cheap, and it also contains a standard amount of sugar, so there is honestly little reason to specifically choose VOLT DARK ENERGY in the United States.
That said, the flavor quality itself is undeniably high, so if I happen to come across it at an independent liquor store in the U.S., it feels worth picking up a can just to try and enjoy.
Energy Ingredients of VOLT DARK ENERGY

Caffeine 142 mg, with carnitine and inositol included. There are no particularly distinctive energy ingredients.
Design of VOLT DARK ENERGY
A color scheme dominated by dark purple, giving off a dark and somewhat mysterious vibe that matches the product name.

Looking at this exterior, it naturally makes me wonder, "What kind of flavor could this be?" However, the contents turn out to be a very standard, classic-style flavor. While the taste itself is higher in quality than expected, there is a slightly negative gap between the expectations created by the appearance on the shelf and the actual flavor once tasted.

The back features a simple design with only the logo and product name. I personally prefer this side of the design.
