In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of FRS WILD BERRY
When I opened the can, a rich blueberry-like aroma instantly spread, just as I hoped! But then, when I poured it, I was surprised to see the yellow FRS color filling the glass.
With this yellow color, it's hard to imagine what "wild berry" would taste like (^_^;)
Even while drinking it, you start to lose track of what it’s supposed to be.
So, I took a sip... and the berry flavor was almost nonexistent Σ(・∀・;)
Although the scent was strongly blueberry-like when I opened the can, it faded almost completely once poured into the glass.
As for the taste, it was more like a mix of weak apple juice and pear, far from any wild berry flavor.
If you were drinking it casually, you probably wouldn’t be able to identify the flavor. Considering both the flavor name and the taste, it feels like a bit of a failure.
With this yellow color, you really have to wonder why it’s called wild berry...
It turns out this color is part of FRS’s manufacturing policy, and they use quercetin, which naturally gives it a yellow hue, instead of artificial dyes. While health-conscious consumers may appreciate the absence of artificial coloring, the can uses a blueberry color, so the actual drink should somewhat match it to avoid confusion between sight and taste.
The taste doesn’t resemble wild berry at all, either.
Since we use all five senses to enjoy a drink, it would be nice if the color could match the imagined color of the flavor.
The fact that the taste doesn’t even resemble a berry makes you wonder if it’s a product-specific issue, or if it's meant to taste like wild berry. If you get the chance, definitely try it yourself!ヽ(=´▽`=)ノ
Energy Ingredients of FRS WILD BERRY
It contains 48mg of caffeine, along with FRS’s energy blend of 325mg of quercetin and 85mg of catechins.
It also has 15kcal, 2g of sugar, and is gluten-free and non-GMO, which is great for safety and peace of mind. However, I really wish they had worked on improving the taste and color (^_^;)
Especially with the rich, refreshing berry flavors of blueberries and grapes available out there, this one feels like a bit of a letdown, which is a shame(´・ω・`)
