ROCKSTAR ZERO SUGAR SILVER ICE
This is a review of ROCKSTAR ZERO SUGAR SILVER ICE, which was released in Australia in 2018.
It was launched as part of the Zero Sugar series, not the Pure Zero series. The design is very similar to the German Pure Zero Silver Ice.
This time, the series name has changed significantly, so I’ve compared all three versions: the American, German, and Australian Silver Ice at the same time. Please take a look at that as well.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of ROCKSTAR ZERO SUGAR SILVER ICE
The moment I opened it, a strong lime scent burst out, and I thought, "Was Silver Ice always this citrusy?" The aroma was so strong that it made me question my memory.
When poured into a glass, it had the familiar, almost Pocari Sweat-like color that’s typical of Silver Ice.
Let’s try it out right away.
Upon tasting, the tartness and lime flavor spread, and soon a refreshing sweetness from lychee envelops the palate. The lychee flavor is nearly identical to the American version of Silver Ice.
Just like the American Silver Ice, the Australian Zero Sugar Silver Ice also achieves a rich sweetness without feeling zero-zero, making it highly satisfying. There’s almost no unpleasant aftertaste from artificial sweeteners, and I was amazed at how well the flavor came together without feeling like a zero-sugar drink.
The aftertaste is refreshing, leaving no lingering residue. The pleasant aftertaste of lime and lychee lingers, and everything about it is well-executed. It’s not a flavor that will blow you away or have a punch, but it’s a universally appealing drink with no complaints.
Energy Ingredients of ROCKSTAR ZERO SUGAR SILVER ICE
It contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 50mg of ginseng, and 50mg of guarana, among other ingredients. There is, of course, no sugar, but it has about 10kcal of calories.
One thing that stood out to me is that despite being part of the "Zero Sugar" series, it doesn't contain any tea extract. In this case, I thought it could just be a "Pure Zero" series instead of a "Zero Sugar" series.
Design of ROCKSTAR ZERO SUGAR SILVER ICE
The design is almost identical to the Pure Zero Silver Ice from Germany’s Silver Big Star, with only the series name changed to "Zero Sugar."
The surface has a rough texture.
In Australia, many Rockstar products temporarily disappeared from store shelves, but now, the original Big Star and Punch Guava, along with a few other staple products, are starting to appear.
Other products have also begun appearing, often with unique Australian designs or series, or versions similar to German or UK releases, like this Silver Ice.
Comparing Silver Ice Across Countries
I happened to have three types of Silver Ice, so I decided to compare them.
From left to right: American, German, and the Australian Silver Ice I’m reviewing today.
I was surprised to see that the colors were completely different when poured into a glass.
The German version is especially yellowish and looks completely different. I feel like there is almost no difference in color between the American and Australian versions.
When comparing the flavors, the base is the same—lychee with a light sweetness and the refreshing citrusy flavor of lime—but if you pay close attention, you can tell that they are completely different.
America
America is the birthplace of Silver Ice. First, the milky flavor of a lactic acid drink spreads across the palate and through the nose. A slight tartness and the sweet lychee flavor linger in the mouth, and despite being a zero-zero drink, the balance of rich sweetness and pleasant acidity in the lychee-flavored drink is exceptional. I’m always amazed by how zero-feeling this flavor is.
Germany
Germany’s version leans towards a citrus flavor with almost no sweetness, and the distinctive lychee flavor of Silver Ice is quite weak. The aftertaste leaves a citrusy tartness, and it seems to resemble the flavor of Rockstar Revolt Killer Citrus. The flavor has fruit notes of grapefruit, lime, and kabosu, making it a great citrus flavor. Although it's a Pure Zero product, it contains 21kcal, which is higher than the other Silver Ice versions. Compared to the American Silver Ice, Germany’s version seems to take the product in a completely different direction.
Australia
The sweetness of lychee is not overwhelming, and it’s balanced with a refreshing citrusy tartness. The flavor is stable and easy to drink without any unusual aftertaste, making it a universally appealing drink. Among the three countries, this one has the most balanced taste and fragrance.
Though all three versions have a similar base flavor, there are noticeable differences. It was great to be able to clearly recognize those differences through a side-by-side comparison. If I had been drinking them individually, I might have noticed something was different, but I wouldn't have been able to pinpoint what exactly was different.
