KONG STRONG WILD POWER ZERO SUGAR QUITTE

Posted on May 16, 2025 | Last updated June 9, 2025

KONG STRONG WILD POWER ZERO SUGAR QUITTE
This is KONG STRONG WILD POWER ZERO SUGAR QUITTE, released in January 2024 at LIDL in Poland.

Since 2024, major energy drink brands in Poland have been gradually expanding their zero-sugar lineups, and it seems that supermarket private brand energy drinks have also started increasing their sugar-free options around the same time.

I'm curious to find out how a sugar-free energy drink from a supermarket private brand tastes—and more importantly, what exactly “QUITTE” flavor is. Time to give it a try.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of KONG STRONG WILD POWER ZERO SUGAR QUITTE

When opened, a fruity and refreshing aroma reminiscent of pears bursts out, accompanied by a floral scent similar to elderflower. The natural and fruity fragrance suggests a rich fruit flavor—something you wouldn’t expect from a low-priced supermarket private brand energy drink. Let’s take a sip.

Once in the mouth, it has a clean and refreshing pear-like taste with just the right amount of tartness. A pleasant, lingering astringency accompanies the fruity and floral aroma that passes through the nose, making it a refined fruit flavor geared toward adults.

There’s absolutely none of that unpleasant zero-sugar aftertaste or artificial sweetener flavor. I was honestly amazed at how naturally the juicy essence of fruit and flowers is expressed in this drink.

Instead of being rich or juicy, it delivers a gentle and refreshing flavor that highlights the pear notes with elegance—just as mentioned earlier, it’s a sophisticated taste for adults.

The featured flavor, “QUITTE,” refers to a yellow fruit known as “quince” in English and “marumero” in Japanese.

I’ve never actually eaten real quince before, but it’s said to have a sweet and fragrant aroma like pears, along with an intense tartness. Because of this, it’s rarely eaten raw and is typically used in processed products like jams or jellies.

Whether or not this KONG STRONG QUITTE faithfully replicates the authentic taste of quince, I can’t say. But as a beverage, it is exceptionally well-crafted.

Its vibrant fruity aroma, juicy pear-like mouthfeel, and unique aftertaste make it so refined that you forget it’s a zero-sugar drink. This rich flavor is truly unexpected for a low-cost supermarket private brand energy drink—and I gave it a top rating of 5 out of 5.

The can design features the iconic gorilla face, common across the KONG STRONG series.

Since this is a quince-flavored drink, a rich yellow color inspired by quince skin is used. However, the appearance and color do not suggest it’s a zero-sugar product at all.

In this version, there’s a slashed design next to the gorilla’s face, along with a hand catching a lightning bolt—adding a touch of cheapness that’s quite fitting for a supermarket private brand energy drink.

For Japanese consumers unfamiliar with “QUITTE,” seeing what kind of fruit it is really helps to build a flavor image. It’s fun to sip the drink while imagining, “This is what I think this fruit tastes like—but what does it really taste like?”
