In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Distinctive Smooth Sweetness with a Fragrance-like Fruit Flavor
Wait, isn’t the inside red? Many of you might have thought the same, and so did I (*´艸`*). It seems they chose a color closer to gooseberry fruit pulp. The scent is sweet, with a floral, fruity aroma that doesn’t really resemble watermelon or berries.

When you taste it, the smooth, sweet, and slightly tangy flavor reminds you of grape pulp, followed by the sweet watermelon flavor that spreads afterward.
The watermelon flavor is quite sweet, with a noticeable sugary taste that might be a bit overwhelming. Perhaps they decided to emphasize the sweetness of the watermelon to complement the gooseberry and watermelon flavor combination.
Since the sweetness of the watermelon is so strong, it’s better enjoyed chilled with ice. At a fridge temperature, the artificial sweetness can make it harder to drink (;´∀`).
WATT ENERGY WATERMELON & GOOSEBERRY's Energy Ingredients

Contains 80mg of caffeine, green tea, yerba maté, guarana, schizandra, and damiana, which are part of the standard WATT energy blend.
WATT ENERGY WATERMELON & GOOSEBERRY's Design

It’s rare for the WATT series to feature such an eye-catching and vibrant design. Anchors, oars, and lifebuoys are also depicted. This design, with its world-building and storytelling, doesn’t feel like it’s from a budget brand.
Around 2016, many watermelon-flavored drinks were released worldwide. WATT, a budget energy drink, took the plunge with this design. As a result, it continues to be sold even years after its release.

The design has changed over the years, and eventually, the original design was replaced with a green one. Unfortunately, this has made it feel less special compared to the initial design. Moreover, when looking at just the can design, many people probably wouldn’t know what flavor it is because of the green with pink accents. I really wish they had kept the unique design of the WATT series intact.
