AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic

In July 2024, AriZona began offering AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic as a limited release on its official website, and starting in 2025 it also became available in stores.
This is the second installment of AriZona RX ENERGY, which has been sold individually since 2001 and is known for its yellow can. I honestly never expected a new flavor to appear.
Now, let me review this new flavor—the first in 13 years.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic
When I open the can, a juicy and savory aroma of orange, pomegranate, papaya, and other fruits spreads out. Although the product name is "Watermelon Herbal Tonic", I do not detect any watermelon-specific aroma. Let me take a sip.

As I take a mouthful, the gentle sweetness of orange, papaya, and pineapple overlaps with a refreshing apple-like taste, followed by a subtle hint of watermelon pulp that appears briefly and fades right away.
It feels like a non-carbonated, gentle tropical fruit juice with a faint touch of tea leaves. The tea note is so subtle that some people might drink through the whole can without really noticing it. Still, this slight tea nuance makes a big difference, giving the drink both freshness and a pleasantly crisp finish.
It has a soothing, refreshing taste—like a tropical fruit tea-ade you might want to enjoy while relaxing in the yard on a sunny day.

AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic contains 10% fruit juice in addition to tea leaves, and when poured into a glass, the ingredients settle and create this beautiful haze.
Energy Ingredients of AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic

It contains 130mg of caffeine, guarana, Siberian ginseng, Korean ginseng, and schisandra.
This is a rather uncommon blend of energy ingredients these days, incorporating herbal components. The "medicinal" impression—one of the core concepts behind the AriZona RX ENERGY line—can also be felt from the selection of these ingredients.
The fruit juice composition (10%) includes pear, mango, kiwi, pineapple, watermelon, and lemon.
Design of AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic
This release of AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic uses black as its base color, giving the entire design a more pronounced classic feel.

It has a good kind of old-school American energy drink vibe—quite different from the polished and modern designs seen in newer brands. Those who have been drinking energy drinks in the U.S. for more than 20 years may understand what I mean.
With a muted black as the main color, the combination of watermelon-inspired red and green, along with the font style, gives off a slightly classic and retro impression.

The front of the can prominently displays the word "Watermelon", but just below it, it also specifies "Watermelon and Tropical Fruits". Since this large "Watermelon" label differs significantly from the actual flavor, some people may feel a sense of disconnect when they taste it.
AriZona RX ENERGY incorporates a design motif inspired by old liquid medicines.

For example, the cross mark near the top of the can and the use of "RX"—a symbol associated with prescriptions and pharmacies—in the product name.

Near the bottom of the can, there is a design that mimics a doctor’s signature on a prescription, along with a note regarding whether the signature is present.
Because the product incorporates many elements reminiscent of medical herbs, the back of the can includes a disclaimer stating that "this is not a medicine but a food product" to avoid any misunderstanding.

These details—even the cautionary text—are part of what makes AriZona RX ENERGY enjoyable as a whole concept.
Since 2024, the U.S. energy drink market has seen consolidation, with new brands being acquired by major beverage companies.

Amid such industry shifts and changing power dynamics, AriZona continues to walk its own path as an independently run family business. As an energy drink enthusiast and a fan who has followed AriZona for over 20 years, the release of this AriZona RX ENERGY Watermelon Herbal Tonic feels truly meaningful.
I look forward to seeing new energy drink series from AriZona in the future.
