ENERZ MANGO PASSION FRUIT
This is the Mango & Passion Fruit flavor of "ENERZ," a rare low-carb type energy drink in Vietnam, launched in 2024.
For those who have read the reviews on Energy Drink Mania, it’s no secret that Vietnamese energy drinks are among the world’s leaders in sugar content. This time, however, ENERZ stands out from conventional Vietnamese products, featuring a North American-style low-carb profile aimed at Gen Z consumers.
That said, considering it’s being released in the Vietnamese market where sugar-packed sweetness is part of the appeal, I suspect they deliberately avoided making it zero-sugar and opted for “low-carb” instead. Now, let’s move on to a detailed review, including its taste and sugar content.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of ENERZ MANGO PASSION FRUIT
Upon opening, a fresh, sweet-tart passion fruit aroma gently wafts out, and when poured into a glass, a rich, sweet mango fragrance fills the air. The aroma is impressively well-crafted, suggesting a Western-style flavor rather than the syrup-like concentrate scent often found in traditional Southeast Asian energy drinks. Now, let’s give it a taste.
On the palate, it offers a tropical fruit flavor with sweet-tart notes of mango, orange, and papaya, followed by a soft sweetness and a rich, banana-like depth in the aftertaste.
The flavor is similar to Japan’s ZONe Morning Energy, and also perfect for those who enjoy classic tropical fruit flavors like Monster Energy Mango Loco.
Most importantly, it’s not the heavy, syrupy taste dominated by excessive sugar and somewhat artificial flavoring often seen in Southeast Asia. Instead, you can distinctly sense the unique character of each fruit through both its aroma and flavor.
Considering that this high-quality flavor can be enjoyed for about half the price of major foreign brands, I believe many people would choose ENERZ MANGO PASSION FRUIT.
Energy Ingredients of ENERZ MANGO PASSION FRUIT
Contains 96mg of caffeine, 1,280mg of taurine, and 64mg of choline.
Also includes 1% apple juice.
ENERZ prominently markets itself as “70% less sugar, low-carb.” However, in reality, it contains about 25g of carbohydrates. Regardless of what it’s being compared to, given the carbohydrate content of a typical full-sugar energy drink, this “70% reduction” claim feels somewhat exaggerated. With 25g of carbs in a 320ml can, it’s close to the amount in regular full-sugar products and, to be honest, not exactly what I’d call “low-carb.”
That said, many Southeast Asian energy drinks contain about three times the sugar of ENERZ MELON, so it still falls into the relatively lower-sugar category within that market.
Design of ENERZ MANGO PASSION FRUIT
The design features a colorful illustration of a volcano erupting under a bright sky, with a slightly cheap-looking vibe. The large “Z” is said to represent a design aimed at Gen Z.
Alongside the illustration, the flavor name “Mango & Passion Fruit” is written in Vietnamese, making the flavor image clear. It’s nice to be able to easily imagine the taste before purchase.
Many energy drinks have flavor names that are difficult to identify. When launching a new product, breaking away from old conventions and adopting a more consumer-friendly approach—like America’s CELSIUS—would bring great benefits for both manufacturers and consumers.
The back of the can lists ingredient information accompanied by icons.
Here it is alongside the melon flavor, which was released at the same time.
Both use vivid color combinations that really stand out. While the volcano and logo font give off a slightly cheap impression, the arrangement of the flavor imagery and the unified illustration style suggest that if the series expanded to 4–5 varieties, it would be fun to pick from them in stores.
In Vietnam, store shelves are often filled with the classic red-and-yellow Southeast Asian energy drinks, along with simple designs like the gold of Red Bull and the green of Carabao.
ENERZ has a slightly different vibe from conventional Southeast Asian energy drinks, making it stand out on store shelves. I’m looking forward to seeing if low-sugar energy drinks will continue to increase in a market like Vietnam, where heavy sugar content is so popular.
