Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink - Maqui Berry
The third product in the Seiyu Energy Drink series, Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink - Maqui Berry, was released on November 25, 2019.
Only products that have received high approval ratings in consumer tests are released under the "Minasama no Osumitsuki" series, making this one of the few domestic energy drinks that can be expected even before trying it. So, what does it taste like!?

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink - Maqui Berry Taste
When pouring it into a glass, I was surprised by the much richer color than I had imagined. I had expected a light pink.
The scent also matches the color impression, with a rich berry juice aroma that makes me excited.
When I took a sip, the mild tartness and natural sweetness of the berries spread in my mouth, along with a rich fragrance. The tartness isn't strong, so the mouthfeel is very smooth.
The first impression is a rich berry flavor, but it doesn't linger in the mouth and isn't overly persistent. On the other hand, the rich fruity scent lingers, so there’s no feeling of blandness or lightness. It strikes an excellent balance between drinkability and satisfaction. Perhaps they aimed for a more universally appealing taste, without making everything too intense.
It’s labeled as containing plant-based lactic acid bacteria, but it doesn’t taste like a lactic acid drink; it’s just a normal berry flavor, and it’s so delicious that you’ll finish a 250ml can in no time. It's one of the top-tier domestic berry-flavored energy drinks.
Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink - Maqui Berry Energy Ingredients
Contains 160mg of caffeine, 450mg of arginine, 3% maqui berry juice from Chile, and also includes plant-based lactic acid bacteria. Since it has quite a bit of caffeine, be cautious not to drink too much.
Maqui berry is a fruit native to Patagonia, Chile, and is similar to blueberries, but it contains more vitamin C and iron than blueberries, and higher polyphenol content than acai and acerola. Although maqui berry juice makes up only 3%, it probably doesn’t have a huge impact on the taste, but it’s interesting that they used maqui berry, a superfood known for its high antioxidant properties.
High Completeness of Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink
The can design is still bold, but they chose a pink base color in an effort to attract female customers and those who haven’t previously picked up energy drinks.
With the high completion level of the berry flavor, many people who drink Maqui Berry will likely have their perception of energy drinks change.
"Minasama no Osumitsuki" conducts consumer tests before release, and only those that pass with high scores are launched. The support rate for Maqui Berry in the test was a staggering 90.2%! It’s definitely delicious, after all.
Although Minasama no Osumitsuki Energy Drink is less exposed than other private-brand energy drinks online, it is better than any other recently released PB product, so I highly recommend giving it a try. I also hope Seiyu will continue selling Maqui Berry for as long as possible without discontinuing it.
