Released at the 2023 Mr. Olympia, CELSIUS launched its new fitness-focused line, CELSIUS ESSENTIALS, with four flavors all at once.

This time, I’m reviewing the CELSIUS ESSENTIALS CHERRY LIMEADE flavor.

Upon opening the can, a sweet and sour limeade aroma fills the air. The slightly stronger acidity seems to reflect the cherry flavor. Let me take a sip.

When I take a sip, the sweet and sour cherry flavor blends with a slightly sweet limeade, and the aftertaste is surprisingly clear and light.

Neither the cherry nor the limeade has much depth or richness. It tastes like a version of an artificial Mountain Dew flavor with a strong chemical note removed. Personally, I felt it might have been better with a more refreshing taste and aroma.

Though artificial, the chemical flavor is not overpowering, but the lack of richness and refreshing notes made it feel like a somewhat ambiguous flavor throughout.

It contains 270mg of caffeine, taurine, guarana, green tea, glucuronolactone, ginger, theanine, isoleucine, and leucine.

The CELSIUS ESSENTIALS series shares the MetaPlus formula with the regular CELSIUS series, but with added amino acids and 70mg more caffeine, totaling 270mg. You can tell from the size and ingredients that this series is designed with a fitness-focused approach, in contrast to the main product, which evokes a healthy lifestyle.

The design of the CELSIUS ESSENTIALS series is characterized by a large CELSIUS logo that covers more than half of the can, in green and silver, matching the flavor color. While the flavor is a mix of cherry and limeade, the product color is entirely green, making it look more like a lime flavor alone, which is a bit of a subtle impression.

On the back, there is a description of the energy ingredients common to the CELSIUS ESSENTIALS series.

While the CELSIUS series used to have a strong image as a stylish energy drink for the lifestyle market, the CELSIUS ESSENTIALS series now feels more like a fitness-oriented sports drink with a larger size and stronger energy ingredients.

These are the four flavors that were first released in the CELSIUS ESSENTIALS series.

Since I wasn’t particularly impressed with the flavors in this CELSIUS ESSENTIALS series, including CHERRY LIMEADE, I thought these four flavors might be discontinued. But to my surprise, new flavors were added right after! If I had to choose, I’d probably stick with the regular 355ml cans of the original line.
