Here’s my review of GHOST ENERGY SOUR PUNK LEMONADE, a collaboration item with “When We Were Young” released as a venue-exclusive in October 2024.

The contents are the same as the standard product, GHOST ENERGY SOUR PINK LEMONADE. As a festival collaboration, the product name cleverly plays on the words “PINK” and “PUNK.”

Since it was initially available only at the 2024 “When We Were Young” venue, it mainly circulated through resellers on eBay. However, as of June 23, 2025, it began rolling out as a limited release at 7-Eleven stores across the U.S., making it much easier to get. This review covers the SOUR PUNK LEMONADE I picked up in the U.S. in July 2025.

It’s great to see more of these originally venue-exclusive, limited-edition releases gradually becoming available nationwide, allowing more GHOST ENERGY fans to get their hands on them. Now, let’s give it a try.

As I take a sip, the sweet and tangy flavor of sour lemon candy spreads across my palate. The dominant impression is that of sour candy, and just like GHOST ENERGY SOUR PINK LEMONADE, it lacks the classic lemonade taste and drinkability.

If you don’t expect a typical lemonade flavor and instead enjoy it as a sweet and sour lemon candy drink, it’s actually quite refreshing and tasty.

I especially recommend drinking it well-chilled—either straight from the fridge or over plenty of ice for that ice-cold experience.

There’s no blandness or lack of flavor, even with lots of ice. You can still enjoy the bold taste of sour lemon candy while also appreciating the cool refreshment from the cold temperature.

Contains 200mg of caffeine, 1000mg of Carnipure L-carnitine for metabolism support, 1000mg of taurine, 150mg of alpha-GPC for cognitive enhancement, 100mg of NeuroFactor extracted from coffee, and 25mg of AstraGin, a combination of astragalus and panax notoginseng that helps improve amino acid absorption.

In particular, the film wrap used for SOUR PUNK LEMONADE not only differs in surface texture, but also highlights clear contrasts in the shades of pink, making the unique illustrations stand out even more.

Fan Theory: Design, Color, and Flavor Inspired by “When We Were Young”

When the 2024 collaboration with “When We Were Young” was confirmed, I imagine the GHOST team had many discussions—What flavor should it be? What name should we use?

Perhaps they realized that instead of creating a brand-new flavor, customizing the existing pink lemonade to match the “When We Were Young” theme would actually be a fun and unexpected approach.

By simply incorporating black into the existing flavor’s color scheme and tweaking the product name, they created an instant connection between GHOST ENERGY and the black & pink aesthetic of “When We Were Young.”

Looking at them side by side, you can see that SOUR PUNK LEMONADE features a brighter, more vibrant pink—clearly a custom color aligned with the shocking pink used by “When We Were Young.”

Creating a completely original flavor for a collaboration isn’t particularly difficult—it’s actually fairly straightforward. That’s why I felt GHOST ENERGY’s decision to instead merge an existing flavor with the world of “When We Were Young” showed a touch of playful creativity. It was a moment that really highlighted the brand’s unique charm.
