Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)
Released on August 19, 2025, the American wellness-focused energy drink series REIGN STORM has launched in Japan. This is a review of Reign Storm Harvest Grape.

In the U.S., this energy drink brand is mainly targeted at health-conscious and active women, and it is currently available in Canada, Europe, and Oceania. And now, it has finally started selling in Japan as well.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)

Upon opening, the aroma bursts out with a scent reminiscent of Japanese grape pulp combined with a candy-like bubblegum grape fragrance. The contents are a bright, cloudy purple. Let's give it a try.
Flavor of Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)
When sipped, it has a sweet and slightly tart grape flavor. The taste itself is light, but the realistic grape aroma is excellent, so it does not feel cheap.

The aftertaste carries a soft sweetness with a hint of grape aroma, leaving a gentle lingering finish.

Overall, it tastes far from a sugar-free drink, but it lacks the richness and expression of real grape pulp, so those expecting a dense and punchy energy drink may find it somewhat underwhelming.

Even at room temperature, the flavor does not degrade and maintains the same deliciousness as when chilled, which is highly commendable. Personally, I feel it is best enjoyed ice-cold with ice cubes.

Adding ice accentuates the acidity, creating a refreshing taste. The sweetness is toned down for a crisp finish, and no unpleasant artificial sweetener taste emerges, making this my recommended way to enjoy it.

Energy Ingredients of Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)

Contains 100mg of caffeine, ginseng, green tea, guarana, and zinc.

As a functional food, there are numerous explanations about the included ingredients throughout the packaging.

Design of Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)

The design features white as the main color combined with purple, the flavor color for grape, matching the common design of the original American Reign Storm series.

The white areas feature a slightly rough surface finish, retaining a characteristic of the American version.

The back of the can displays functional icons similar to the American version. Below the icons are words related to beauty and wellness, which might give a slightly cheap impression.

About the Reign Storm Series in the U.S.

Let's compare it with the U.S. version of Reign Storm Harvest Grape.
Design of Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)
The design is almost identical, but the U.S. version has a mirrored silver logo, while the Japanese version uses the flavor color purple, which is the main difference.

This clean-looking Reign Storm is actually a brand newly introduced by Monster Energy. Behind it lies the success of CELSIUS, which rapidly grew in the U.S. to become the third largest in market share. CELSIUS opened up the wellness market, particularly popular among women, and Reign Storm was created with this trend in mind.

When placing Reign Storm and CELSIUS side by side, you can clearly see that the can size and layout of various elements are very similar.

Thus, Reign Storm initially gives the impression of being a "CELSIUS imitation," but from 2025 onwards, its design has gradually changed, establishing a more independent style.

One example is the color logo adopted for the Japanese version.
Design of Reign Storm Harvest Grape (Japan)
This is not a design unique to Japan. Going forward, Europe, Oceania, and even the U.S. will switch all flavor logos from mirrored silver to their respective flavor colors. (The U.S. Harvest Grape can color will also undergo major changes.)

The Reign Storm series is gradually moving from being a "CELSIUS imitation" toward establishing its own global identity.

Incidentally, there seemed to have been plans to release Reign Storm in Japan a few years ago, but it quietly disappeared. Considering how wellness-focused energy drinks would be accepted in Japan, the initial cancellation was understandable—until now, with two flavors launching simultaneously!

Even though it is under Monster Energy, Reign Storm is still largely unknown in Japan. It will be interesting to see how much presence this new brand can establish in the Japanese market.

1口目の味は良かった。二口目あたりからゼロカロの味がはっきりと感じられるようになった。やはりゼロカロはゼロカロだ。私のようにゼロカロと普通のやつの味の違いがわかってしまうデブ諸君はおすすめではない。
