TIGER CLASSIC PLACEBO

TIGER, the top brand from Poland, released the caffeine-free version of their original flavor, "TIGER CLASSIC PLACEBO," in March 2023. The straightforward naming is exceptionally interesting. In neighboring Czechia, it is sold under the name "TIGER ORIGINAL PLACEBO."
In this review, I’ll be comparing the TIGER CLASSIC PLACEBO with the original caffeinated version as well.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of TIGER PLACEBO
When opening the can, a less sweet scent than the original emerges, with a slightly chemical note and a classic flavor profile. I expected the taste to be the same, but the fragrance seems to suggest a slight difference. The color of the liquid also appears slightly lighter compared to the original. Let's take a sip and see.

Upon taking a sip, I experience a mild sweetness and acidity, along with a subtle chemical aftertaste, giving it a classic flavor profile. The first impression is of a sharp chemical flavor that distinctly sets it apart from the original TIGER!
While the original TIGER CLASSIC had a safe and universally enjoyable flavor, this TIGER PLACEBO seems to have accentuated the chemical flavor.
Perhaps, since the caffeine-free version has no actual energizing effect, the intention behind this chemical flavor might be to simulate the sensation of an energy boost through the flavor alone.
To confirm the difference in taste, I decided to compare it with the original TIGER CLASSIC.
Comparison of Caffeinated and Caffeine-Free Versions

On the left is the caffeine-free version, and on the right is the caffeinated version. At first glance, it’s hard to notice the difference, but looking from above, you can see the difference in color.

As I suspected, the color is noticeably lighter than the caffeinated original, which seems clear. Now, let's taste them both.
A sip instantly reveals the taste difference. TIGER CLASSIC has a well-balanced sweetness and acidity, with a classic flavor profile that is appealing to most. It definitely lacks the chemical flavor, resulting in an easy-to-drink taste.
On the other hand, TIGER PLACEBO has a medicinal aroma, and the flavor is enveloped by a stronger chemical taste. The base sweet-and-sour flavor is well encapsulated by the chemical notes, making for a sharp, distinct taste. The flavor feels like it has more of an energizing impact, and I could really sense this difference.
As I initially felt, it doesn’t come across as caffeine-free; instead, the stronger chemical flavor enhances the energizing taste, making it feel like an actual energy drink.
Even without caffeine, I feel like it would work for those who claim, "I can’t sleep after drinking an energy drink!" Σ(´∀`;)
Energy Ingredients of TIGER PLACEBO

TIGER PLACEBO does not contain caffeine, nor does it include taurine, which is found in other regular products. It’s a sugar-filled carbonated beverage with a small amount of vitamins. While it lacks any true energy ingredients, the price is the same as other flavors.
Design of TIGER PLACEBO
The black top on TIGER PLACEBO is rare in the TIGER series, giving it a distinct look compared to the other TIGER products.

This black top might have been purposely chosen to make it clear that the product lacks energy ingredients. I’ve never seen a black top on other TIGER series drinks.
The "0.0% Caffeine" label is prominently displayed, and the name "TIGER PLACEBO" is cleverly chosen as well.

The official TIGER website humorously promotes the product with the tagline, "Experience the effects of 0.0% caffeine!"
I believe the launch of TIGER PLACEBO is connected to the consideration of a law in Poland that would ban the sale of energy drinks to those under 18.
It seems like TIGER PLACEBO is a fun product designed to take advantage of this topic. While other brands have released caffeine-free energy drinks in the past, none of them have achieved long-lasting popularity. However, it’ll be interesting to see how long TIGER PLACEBO remains on the market. Perhaps it will even become a staple product for years to come.
