V Energy Zero is the sugar-free version of V Energy, from the leading energy drink brand in Australia and New Zealand.

At the same time as V Energy Zero, V Energy Sugarfree was also being sold. With nearly identical ingredients and taste, there was little differentiation between the two, and before long, V Energy Zero was discontinued.

V Original & Sweet Artificial Sweetener Flavor

The aroma is fruity with a tartness reminiscent of V Original. The color is also the same as the Original.

Upon tasting, I was surprised to find it sweeter than V Original. The sweet and tart fruity flavor is the same as the original, but the sweetness is much stronger, creating a smoother version of the V Original flavor.

What’s interesting is how well the artificial sweetener taste is hidden. Having previously drunk V Sugarfree, which had a strong artificial sweetener flavor, I expected V Zero to have a more obvious chemical taste. But it’s actually the opposite. The sweetness gently wraps around the distinctive tartness of V, creating a smooth taste, and I think this approach might have gained it some fans.

Contains 155mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, 300mg of guarana, and 125mg of glucuronolactone. While sugar-free, it does contain a small amount of calories—13kcal. Unfortunately, it doesn’t qualify as "zero calorie" based on the product name.

The can features a rough texture, with a silver coating resembling a metal plate.

I initially thought the black and silver contrast created a tactile effect through raised edges, but it turns out the black areas themselves are textured, including the black part of the V logo. It’s a neat detail.

V Zero was available in stores until around 2018, as seen in this trip report. However, by the time of the 2019 #VCHAT campaign, V Zero was no longer included, indicating that production likely ceased at that time. It seems it couldn’t coexist with V Sugarfree.
