Upon taking a sip, the rich blackberry’s depth and tartness hit first, followed by a slight bitterness, creating an intense blackberry flavor. With the abundance of sugar, you can really feel the heaviness.

This isn't a flavor that mimics real fruit; instead, it offers the powerful sugary experience that’s typical of the ROCKSTAR PUNCHED series.

If you add ice, the intense flavor becomes clearer, and the smooth throat feel makes the blackberry taste stand out even more. You'll get a richer, more delicious blackberry juice flavor with ice than when it’s chilled.

Flavor of the U.S. ROCKSTAR PUNCHED BLACKBERRY

I’m adding this section in September 2026 to review the U.S. version of ROCKSTAR PUNCHED BLACKBERRY.

Three years after the original Canadian ROCKSTAR PUNCHED BLACKBERRY, it was finally released in the United States in January 2026, almost as if they had suddenly remembered it existed.

When I open the can, a sweet-tart and refreshing aroma of blackberry, raspberry, cranberry, and cherry spreads out.

The color is slightly redder than the original Canadian version, giving it a hue somewhat reminiscent of a grape-flavored drink. Now, let me give it a taste.

On the palate, I get a rich sweetness and moderate tartness, along with the juicy flavor of berry flesh and a slight astringency from the skins. It has a deep, full-bodied flavor that can only really be achieved with a sugar-sweetened formula.

The flavor profile feels quite similar to the original Canadian version, but the U.S. version has a lighter, more refreshing mouthfeel. Since it drinks cleanly and easily when chilled, I feel the U.S. version may appeal to a wider range of people.

Energy Ingredients of the Canadian Version

It contains 160mg of caffeine, 63mg of taurine, 4.5mg of ginseng, and 3mg of guarana. The amounts of taurine and the other ingredients are surprisingly low, to the point where you might think there was a labeling error, but these amounts are correct.

With a whopping 68g of sugar in a 473ml can, it is definitely something to be careful about if you're prone to drinking too much. That's enough sugar to put it near the top of the Energy Drink Health Risk Ranking.

Energy Ingredients of the U.S. Version

The U.S. version contains 160mg of caffeine, along with taurine, milk thistle, ginseng, and guarana.

It contains 200 calories, which is 60kcal less than the Canadian version, and 51g of carbohydrates, 17g less than the Canadian version. That's still a considerable amount, but it is somewhat lower than the Canadian version, which contains a particularly large amount of sugar. Even so, it still contains a lot of sugar, so it's best to avoid drinking too much.

Design of the Canadian Version

The bright purple and black color combination, which you won’t find in the American ROCKSTAR PUNCHED series, is beautiful. I personally really like this color scheme.

In Canada, both English and French are used, and the text is split on either side of the big star, reflecting the bilingual nature of the country.

From the front of the can, the brand name, series name, and flavor name are not visible, which is a design flaw shared by both the U.S. and Canada. Only a big star is visible, which seems like a missed opportunity in terms of shelf display.

It's disappointing that there's no information on the front. Rockstar Canada often introduces unique flavors, and in 2023, many exclusive Canadian flavors were released. Hopefully, they will update the design to step away from this flawed approach.

Design of the U.S. Version

The background design of the U.S. version is the same as the one used on the Canadian version and throughout the ROCKSTAR PUNCHED series, but the combination with the color of the straight star on the front of the can, along with the larger amount of black, gives it a darker, deeper overall look than the Canadian version.

And even in 2026, the front of the can still doesn't include all of the essential elements. Instead of prioritizing the brand and series names, things like the tagline and three icons that are supposed to be placed toward the bottom of the can are featured on the front.

It's honestly shocking that ROCKSTAR is still going in this direction, filling empty space with taglines and seemingly meaningless icons...

If you remember how much momentum ROCKSTAR had in the early 2000s, it's hard not to feel disappointed by the brand's current design, especially after its market share has declined so dramatically. I can't help but think they could simply bring back the classic design.
