bang COTTON CANDY
This is a review of Bang's super sweet flavor, Cotton Candy. A caffeine-free version of Cotton Candy is also available, so I tried comparing the two.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
The Sweetness That Truly Represents Cotton Candy Lasts
The moment you open the can, you’re instantly reminded of the distinct, rich sweet smell of cotton candy. This is a type of sweet scent that Japanese people aren’t typically used to (●´ω`●).
The taste itself is a safe sweetness with just a hint of artificial sweetener flavor, but the standout feature is the sweet aroma that gently wafts through your nose after drinking it, which perfectly replicates the cotton candy flavor.
The redesigned version of Cotton Candy was served with plenty of ice. Even with ice, the intense sweet scent of cotton candy remains so strong that the sweetness doesn’t lessen. This is impressive.
By the way, it might be difficult to imagine this level of sweetness from Japanese cotton candy, so you might want to think of it as the "sweet American candy that you feel might not be good for you, but you eat it anyway" to understand the flavor. It’s just that sweet (*´艸`*).
Energy Ingredients of bang COTTON CANDY
It contains 300mg of caffeine, creatine, BCAA, and CoQ10. With twice the caffeine of a typical energy drink, it's easy to overconsume, so be cautious. The exact amounts of the other ingredients are unclear, but it makes me want to use this as a pre-workout drink before training.
If you drink it in public places like gyms, the sweet scent of cotton candy will fill the air, so be cautious about that too (^_^;).
Design of bang COTTON CANDY
The tab is the standard orange-ringed tab used across Bang products. I think it could be nice if they had matching color tabs to match the can, but they consistently use this one.
Here’s a comparison of Cotton Candy’s pink and Power Punch’s pink. You can see the difference here, but when you're at a store surrounded by over ten Bang products, it can be hard to distinguish at first. Cotton Candy’s pink has a specific vibe, so I wish Power Punch had been red instead.
Comparison Between bang COTTON CANDY and Caffeine-Free Version
Bang Cotton Candy comes in two versions: the regular one with 300mg of caffeine (which I reviewed here) and a new caffeine-free version. I thought the flavor wouldn’t change with the presence or absence of caffeine, but they are actually quite different. Here’s a comparison.
The color is the same across all Bang products: colorless. There’s a slight yellowish tint depending on the light, but the actual color is nearly identical.
First, the aroma: the regular version has a much stronger and sweeter fragrance. On the other hand, the caffeine-free version has a very faint, almost peculiar scent, and doesn't smell like cotton candy at all. The fragrance isn’t weak—it’s a completely different smell.
As for the taste, the caffeine-free version even has a bitter flavor, and it's entirely different. Honestly, it was unpleasant Σ(´∀`;).
With the faint, almost unpleasant sweet scent and strange bitterness, I wondered if it had gone bad. There’s really no need to compare the two because the flavors are worlds apart. Personally, I wouldn’t repurchase the caffeine-free Cotton Candy.
Interestingly, the back of the cans for both the regular and caffeine-free versions are identical. Since the caffeine-free version doesn’t contain caffeine, it might even be suitable for all ages.
I’ve also written a separate review for the Cotton Candy flavor, so please feel free to check that out as well.

Bang Cotton Candy was the energy drink flavor that pulled me into energy drinks all together. It was the final stretch of university, big tests coming up. People were handing out free Bangs for promotion, and I was handed the Cotton Candy flavor. Like all energy drinks it has a near acrid taste, but I had never tasted such a flavor in a 'soda' before. I made the mistake of drinking it as a soda, rather than measured sips to better balance out the caffeine. I was more productive that day, but at a hand shaking cost ????
