ZONe ENERGY TOUGHNESS GOLD

Released on May 26, 2026, ZONe ENERGY TOUGHNESS GOLD is a collaboration product with Uma Musume.

ZONe ENERGY TOUGHNESS GOLD is a revival of the original Uma Musume collaboration product, "ZONe TOUGHNESS," which was first released in 2022.

While bottle cans have become the standard for ZONe, ZONe ENERGY TOUGHNESS GOLD returns in the same 500ml can used back in 2022, with the flavor faithfully recreated using the original recipe.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 8,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of ZONe ENERGY TOUGHNESS GOLD

When I open the can, a sweet-tart aroma reminiscent of a mixed orange fruit drink bursts out.

On the palate, a mellow orange flavor spreads out alongside an ultra-light carbonation with soft, gentle bubbles. There’s very little acidity, and the aftertaste is light and refreshing.

In addition to containing 10% orange juice, this Uma Musume collaboration also includes carrot juice as a unique touch. However, the carrot flavor itself is barely noticeable. At most, it feels like the carrot slightly softens the acidity of the orange flavor, so even people who dislike carrots should still be able to enjoy it as an orange-flavored drink.

Because of its gentle sweetness and ultra-light carbonation, it’s quite different from the bold, intense taste typically associated with energy drinks. Rather than expecting something aggressively stimulating, this is better suited for when I want to slowly enjoy an easy-drinking sweetness.

This time, the collaboration revival celebrates Uma Musume’s Golden Week campaign, "GOLD WEEK," so the product name has changed from the previous "ZONe TOUGHNESS" to "ZONe TOUGHNESS GOLD" (while keeping the same flavor and ingredients).

The color scheme has also changed to a combination of orange and gold, and interestingly, the black top that had been a signature feature of the ZONe series has been replaced with a silver top.

The collaboration-themed back design comes in two variations. Compared to the previous release, which featured a massive 16 different character designs, this one feels a bit more restrained.

However, this time even the existing bottle can flavors are getting five different Uma Musume collaboration designs!

It’s a great opportunity for Uma Musume fans to discover ZONe’s regular flavors beyond Toughness Gold, so this feels like the right approach.

Since this is a complete revival of the original Toughness, the flavor and ingredients remain unchanged, while the new gold-themed design and collaboration rollout across multiple flavors make it an enjoyable release for both Uma Musume fans and ZONe fans alike.
