Released on May 13, 2025. Here's a review of the newly updated HYPER ZONe, which features a completely renewed package design and flavor.

Although the product name remains the same—“HYPER ZONe”—ZONe Original has always made bold announcements with every flavor change. So in this review, I’ll refer to it as “HYPER ZONe 2025” for clarity.

ZONe Original has changed its flavor several times over the years, but… this time, the renewal feels completely different from anything before.

Flavor of HYPER ZONe 2025

As soon as you open it, a fruity aroma bursts out, blending the sweet scent typical of classic flavors with a hint of grape. Let’s take a sip.

When it hits your mouth, a fruit mix flavor unfolds—sweet pineapple and mango, a pleasantly tart and refreshing apricot, and a juicy apple-like aftertaste.

The sourness is mild, making it a perfect example of a sweet-forward fruit mix flavor.

The press release states that the flavor has been renewed to be "tropical and fruity," and it’s true that it feels like a big departure from the classic image of ZONe Original.

Has any other energy drink brand ever changed their original flavor this much…? It feels like a major shift in direction.

It’s not too strong or too weak—just a well-balanced, universally appealing fruit mix flavor. Personally, I really like it. It’s so easy to drink that I found myself finishing the entire 400ml without even noticing. I imagine many people will rate this one highly.

Comparing New and Old HYPER ZONe

It might not even be worth comparing, but I went ahead and tried the old HYPER ZONe as well. The new HYPER ZONe 2025 is on the left, and the old one is on the right.

On its own, HYPER ZONe 2025 might look like a typical classic flavor, but when placed next to the yellow of the old HYPER ZONe, it starts to look more like a tropical fruit flavor.

Despite having the same product name, the taste is entirely different. The old HYPER ZONe was a classic flavor with a sweet, chemical-like aroma as an accent. In contrast, HYPER ZONe 2025 has a juicy fruit sweetness and a smooth, natural mouthfeel.

Honestly, this feels more like a completely new product than a renewal. It probably would’ve made more sense to release it as a separate flavor.

There’s no way to say which is better—the classic flavor or the fruit mix flavor. However, the old HYPER ZONe had a noticeable chemical element mixed in with the sweetness, which many people likely found hard to drink. I assume that HYPER ZONe 2025 was created with a greater emphasis on drinkability for a broader audience, even if it meant stepping away from the "energy drink-like" taste.

In terms of ingredients, there’s no major difference between the two.

The differences in flavor can’t be seen in the ingredient list, but they’re significant. Since neither the ingredients nor the design visibly indicate how much the flavor has changed, those trying HYPER ZONe again after a while will almost certainly notice something feels off.

Energy Ingredients of HYPER ZONe 2025

Contains 150mg of caffeine and 800mg of arginine. With this renewal, the amount of arginine has increased from 500mg to 800mg.

Design of HYPER ZONe 2025

The number “150,” representing the caffeine content, is boldly displayed as part of the new 2025 ZONe series unified design. On the other hand, despite the product being called “HYPER ZONe,” the word “HYPER” does not appear on the front.

Originally, there was a clear distinction: the 500ml regular can was “ZONe,” and the 400ml bottle can was “HYPER ZONe.” But now that the Original is only available in a 400ml bottle, I think they’re looking to drop the “HYPER” altogether. Personally, I felt that once the 500ml cans were gone, there was no need for “HYPER” anymore.

On the back, “HYPER ZONe” is still printed in small text.

With the next package redesign, they might as well simplify it to just “ZONe ENERGY.”

By the way, the Zero Sugar version—also renewed at the same time—only had its packaging updated, with no changes to the contents.

パッケージはそんなに変わってないのに味が全くの別物になってて驚いた。前の味も好きだったから別の商品として出して欲しかったかな。
