The Silver Edition, part of the Edition series released in Austria—the home of Red Bull—before it was launched in the U.S. This version differs from the American one, with a stronger taste and aroma, so I decided to review it separately. This is a rare 2011 review with no information available online.

Grapefruit-like Bitter and Fruity Flavor

When poured into a glass, this champagne-like color appears, quite different from the clear color of the commonly known Silver Edition. The ginger scent is quite strong, with no noticeable lime aroma.

Upon tasting, the flavor is more of a bitter grapefruit-like taste rather than lime, with a sweet and sour flavor that finishes with a refreshing aftertaste. The bitterness may be tough for those who dislike it, but for craft beer lovers or those who enjoy the sharpness and freshness of bitterness, this could be exceptional. Personally, I like it (●´ω｀●)

But why is the Silver Edition so yellow in color... The version I’m reviewing here is the first batch released in Austria a year before the Edition series launched in America.

The design features the "SILVER EDITION" label overlapping with the "RED BULL" name, with the bull’s outline in simple design without any color. This was the first release design, and subsequent editions from Austria followed this outline design for a while.

Compared to other Silver Editions, many designs use a slightly darker silver or incorporate lime green in the American versions, offering a more stylish look. The Austrian product from this early batch has a very simple design, with only "ENERGY DRINK" written at the bottom of the can.

The Edition series was launched in Austria in 2011, and in October 2012, the red, blue, and silver editions were widely released in America, creating a global buzz.

Afterward, Red Bull released the 4th Edition, the "Summer Edition," as a seasonal flavor in the U.S., marking the first time a new Red Bull flavor was launched outside of Austria. From there, many new Red Bull flavors were released in the U.S.

Two years after the Summer Edition, in the winter of 2016, the limited Winter Edition was released first in Austria, followed by a new Winter Edition in 2017. Austria regained a bit of its leadership in the global Red Bull scene, releasing new editions ahead of other countries. It’s fascinating to look back at the history of energy drink brands like this, showing how enjoyable the world of energy drinks can be.
